  Father's Day is a commemoration of paternity, paternal connections, and the role of dads in society. Since the Middle Ages, the 19th of March has been observed as Saint Joseph's Day in Catholic nations throughout Europe. Sonora Smart Dodd established Father's Day in the United States in 1910, and it was initially observed on the third Sunday in June. The day is observed on various dates across the world, with local areas honoring fatherhood in their own unique ways .  Fathers, like mothers, are  pillars in the development of a child's emotional well-being . Children look to their fathers to lay down the rules and enforce them. They also look to their fathers to provide a feeling of security, both physical and emotional.  Father's Day recognizes and honors dads' contributions to their families and society at large.
